This study examines the evolution of student identity in Iran’s education system, focusing on high school girls in Andisheh City during the 1380s SH (2000s CE). The preceding decade (1370s SH) marked a transitional period in Iran’s post-war history, when the Islamic Republic’s reconstruction policies reshaped governance and social values. According to sociologist Faramarz Rafi’pour, from the early 1360s SH onward, Iranian society experienced a gradual shift toward materialism and profit orientation, accompanied by a decline in revolutionary and religious ideals. These broader dynamics permeated the education system and influenced students’ self-perceptions.<br>In contemporary Iran, education is one of the country’s largest cultural institutions. Understanding changes in student identity is essential for evaluating the outcomes of educational reforms and their alignment with national objectives. Adolescence-particularly the high school years-is a formative stage for personal and social identity, shaping future values, aspirations, and behaviors. Investigating identity construction in specific historical contexts enhances understanding of societal identity formation and helps inform future educational strategies.<br>The study draws on Erik Erikson’s developmental theory of identity, which conceptualizes adolescence as a critical period of exploration and consolidation, and employs John Weidman’s four-component framework of educational socialization.<br>Method: Using a qualitative design, the study applies thematic content analysis to explore lived experiences of studenthood. Participants included 13 women who attended high school in Andisheh during the 1380s SH, recruited through purposive and snowball sampling until data saturation. Semi-structured interviews (60–90 minutes) were conducted in 1401 SH (2022 CE), recorded with consent, transcribed, and analyzed using MAXQDA 2022. Ethical considerations included confidentiality and voluntary participation.<br>Findings: Student identity was constructed through interrelated domains of family, school, peers, and the broader social environment. Family authority remained dominant, emphasizing hierarchical respect and limited consultation despite social change. The ethic of obedience-especially the command to “study diligently”-extended familial influence into education. Schools functioned as secondary homes, generally viewed positively but uncritically. Teachers were valued for pedagogical skill rather than moral example, and students prioritized practical knowledge such as science and mathematics. Peer relations were largely confined to school and shaped by conformity and shared modesty, with avoidance of political or religious discussions maintaining harmony. The wider social environment reinforced normative expectations regarding femininity and bodily regulation; while media figures were admired, imitation was restricted, and the hijab was internalized as both a national and religious duty. Overall, identity formation occurred through a balance of obedience, adaptation, and subtle resistance within overlapping systems of authority.<br>Conclusion: Applying Weidman’s model, the findings show that 1380s SH girls internalized hierarchical family norms emphasizing deference. Educational and familial socialization produced pre-committed identities (Marcia), marked by adherence rather than exploration. Conformity prevailed-through familial acquiescence, scholastic compliance, limited peer autonomy, and societal adaptation. With few alternative models available, existing structures were perceived as natural. These results highlight partial success in reform efforts to cultivate resilient, self-reflective identities and suggest directions for future educational interventions.

Introduction: Adolescence, as one of the most sensitive and pivotal stages of human life, plays a central role in shaping individual and social identity. During this period, adolescents experience various social roles and identities before their identity is fully established, highlighting the importance of transmitting cultural heritage and strengthening social cohesion. In this context, religious rituals and practices-especially pilgrimage (Ziyarat)-are among the most significant sources of identity construction and socialization for Iranian adolescents. In Shia Islam, pilgrimage is not only a devotional act but also a means of deep spiritual connection with God, the Imams, and fellow pilgrims, fostering self-reflection and personal growth.<br>However, due to technological advancements, the rise of social media, and cultural transformation, the new generation of adolescents has developed different needs, interests, and perceptions compared to previous generations. While still engaging with traditional practices such as pilgrimage, the quality and nature of their experiences have shifted. Hence, understanding adolescents’ perceptions, motivations, and lived experiences of pilgrimage-particularly at the Imam Reza shrine-is essential for designing effective cultural and identity-building programs.<br>The present study aims to identify and analyze the mental perceptions and lived experiences of adolescent pilgrims at the Imam Reza shrine (those born in the 1380s SH) to represent their motivational and cognitive perspectives and to provide insights for revising cultural and pilgrimage services in line with the characteristics of the new generation.<br>Methodology: This study adopted a qualitative approach using phenomenology to gain a deep understanding of adolescents’ lived experiences, especially in cognitive and emotional domains. Data were collected through in-depth, semi-structured interviews with adolescents born in the 2000s who had visited the Imam Reza Holy Shrine. Thematic analysis was applied to extract core perceptions, motivations, and attitudes toward Imam Reza (peace be upon him), the shrine, rituals, and related cultural programs.<br>Findings: The pilgrimage experience of adolescents born in the 2000s displays distinct characteristics compared with earlier generations. Two key components emerge:<br>a) Emotion-centered perception of the Perfect Human: Adolescents generally approach pilgrimage with limited theological knowledge of Imamate, perceiving Imam Reza primarily as an emotional and ideal figure rather than a religious authority. Their connection is shaped more by affect and the search for spiritual refuge than by doctrinal understanding.<br>b) Personalized pilgrimage experience: Pilgrimage is redefined as a personal and introspective practice-an opportunity for peace, reflection, and leisure-rather than a collective religious duty. Adolescents favor interactive and innovative programs over repetitive rituals and show an inclination toward rational inquiry and experiential engagement.<br>Discussion and Conclusion: For adolescents born in the 1380s SH, pilgrimage has evolved from a traditional collective ritual into a personal, emotional, and reflective experience. Their limited religious knowledge coexists with a strong desire for authenticity, innovation, and rational understanding.<br>Accordingly, it is recommended to strengthen adolescents’ cognitive understanding of the Imamate and the personality of Imam Reza (peace be upon him), promote their active participation in shrine-related programs, and design cultural activities attuned to their needs and reasoning-oriented worldview.<br>These insights can serve as a foundation for enhancing the cultural and pilgrimage services of the Imam Reza Holy Shrine and activating its identity-forming and cohesion-building potential for the new generation.

Introduction: In recent years, companies such as Disney have adopted a “diversity” strategy in their productions, whereby protagonists are selected from different races, cultures, and countries. This strategy emphasizes creating a sense of belonging among global audiences and seeks to represent the lived experiences of diverse communities through plural characters and narratives. However, despite this seemingly inclusive approach-and while the Western world portrays itself as faithful to history, claiming that the colonial era has ended and that every nation now possesses its independence, unity, identity, and territorial integrity-the themes, content, and imagery of these animations reveal a postcolonial orientation. Through novel imagery and narratives within attractive and diverse storyworlds, they align themselves with the neo-colonial policies of Western countries, led by the United States. In reality, the notion that “the West dominates the East” remains the prevailing image in Western media productions, with animation being one of its most influential forms.<br>The importance of postcolonial studies in contemporary animation lies in the fact that the audiences of these works encompass a wide range of cultures and nationalities. On one hand, different ethnic groups observe representations of their identities in Western narratives and reinterpret them through the appealing aesthetic and storytelling format of animation. On the other hand, children and adolescents-who are particularly impressionable-consume these productions extensively through modern media platforms and social networks, thereby absorbing their implicit meanings.<br>Method: Adopting a postcolonial approach, this research analyzes eight major cinematic animations: Big Hero 6, Inside Out, Zootopia, Soul, Coco, Encanto, Turning Red, and Elemental. Using thematic analysis, the study examines how postcolonial perspectives are embedded in these works. In the first stage, the animations were viewed in full, and the unit of analysis was composite: the entire film was observed, and “sequences,” “scenes,” and “relevant dialogues” were coded as initial data. In the second stage, significant themes within the initial codes were identified and organized into coherent categories. In the third stage, overarching categories were extracted from these key themes using postcolonial theories, particularly Edward Said’s theory of Orientalism.<br>Findings: Among the eight animations analyzed, the main characters in five of them are women or adolescent girls. Their vulnerabilities, decision-making processes, agency, and eventual transformation into heroes are all redefined within a postcolonial framework. Female gender, race, and minority status are depicted in ways that reproduce Western notions of dominance over the East, transmitted to the younger generation.<br>A considerable portion of these animations narrates the migration of minorities, framed within contexts such as war, colonialism, or natural disasters. Seven postcolonial categories emerged from the analysis: migration, hybrid identity, dominance, othering, resistance, role modeling, and race, minority, and gender. Among these, dominance (power) was identified as the central theme across all animations studied.<br>Conclusion: The representation of the East by the West in these animations is shaped through postcolonial themes and contains two hidden dimensions:<br>1. Naturalization of generational conflict in Eastern cultures: In these portrayals, Eastern adolescents are compelled to move beyond family, tradition, and ethnic values in order to achieve their dreams, individuality, and a sense of “being enough.” Characters such as Miguel (Coco), Mirabel (Encanto), and Mei Lee (Turning Red) become heroes only by breaking free from familial authority and adopting hybrid identities. This process reflects the Western construction of progress and autonomy in the East.<br>2. Music as a symbol of the new Eastern generation’s resistance: In Soul, Coco, and Turning Red, music functions as a metaphor for resistance against family traditions and as a tool for redefining personal identity. Protagonists who initially appear weak, overlooked, or powerless transform into active agents and story heroes through music.<br>In sum, the analysis of global media companies’ animations demonstrates that the ostensibly humanitarian goals of these productions-claiming to represent racial and cultural diversity-remain rooted in Western postcolonial perspectives toward the East. What is marketed as “cultural diversity” ultimately constitutes a reproduction of cultural colonialism, repackaged in new forms and disseminated through media platforms.

Objective: In the present era, virtual and digital spaces have become an integral part of the lives of teenagers and young adults. The value of the gaming industry has reached billions of dollars, and players collectively spend about three billion hours a week playing games. The gaming industry has transcended traditional boundaries to become a mainstream form of entertainment. One important venue in this context is gamenets, which play a key role in shaping adolescents’ behaviors and attitudes as environments that provide access to video games.<br>Methods: This study examines the relationship between the use of gamenets and changes in adolescents’ educational attitudes, considering the mediating role of communication skills and academic performance. A quantitative research method (questionnaire survey) was employed to achieve this goal. Data were collected using researcher-designed questionnaires containing multiple-choice items and Likert-type scales. The survey was conducted between April and June 1404.<br>Results: Data analysis shows that parental supervision has a significant inverse relationship with children’s exposure to violent content, negative educational outcomes, and reduced family time. In other words, in families with higher levels of supervision, children are less exposed to inappropriate content and experience fewer academic and social problems. Conversely, regular use of gamenets is directly associated with increased exposure to violent content, academic underachievement, and diminished family interactions. These findings indicate that the extent of gamenet use can indirectly influence various aspects of children’s lives through decreased parental supervision and increased access to inappropriate content.<br>Conclusions: The results of this study demonstrate that gamenet environments have multidimensional effects on children and adolescents that require targeted interventions. Despite the positive effects of gaming on problem-solving skills, frequent exposure to violent content (reported by 71.1% of participants) and negative experiences such as hearing foul language (38.5%) underscore the need for an age-rating system and intelligent monitoring mechanisms in gamenets. This calls for tripartite collaboration among the Ministry of Culture, the Media Regulatory Authority, and the Gamenet Owners Union to design and implement appropriate regulatory frameworks.

In recent decades, urban transformations and evolving family structures have led to a decline in face-to-face interactions within neighborhoods, weakening the role of social institutions in supporting families—particularly mothers with young children. This study explores the lived experiences of mothers participating in “Kama,” a mother–child coworking ecosystem established in mosques, and examines its impact on family development as well as neighborhood-level cultural and social growth. The research adopts a qualitative, applied approach using grounded theory methodology to understand how mothers perceive and engage with Kama spaces. Through purposive sampling, in-depth interviews were conducted with 15 participants, including mothers and trained facilitators who have directly experienced this ecosystem. The study investigates how Kama, by operating within mosque environments, creates a supportive platform for mothers and children, fostering personal growth, social participation, and community cohesion.<br>Findings reveal that Kama coworking spaces offer a unique solution to the dual challenge faced by many mothers: balancing caregiving responsibilities with personal and social development. These spaces allow mothers to remain close to their children while engaging in educational, cultural, and professional activities. The presence of children in a safe, spiritually enriched environment—supervised by trained facilitators—reduces separation anxiety and enhances emotional security, while mothers benefit from peer support, skill-building opportunities, and access to shared resources.<br>The conceptual framework of the study integrates Bowlby’s attachment theory and Bourdieu’s theory of capital and social fields. At the micro level, Bowlby’s model emphasizes the importance of a “secure base” for children’s emotional and cognitive development. Kama spaces reproduce this secure base by enabling mothers to maintain emotional proximity while pursuing individual goals. This dual engagement fosters curiosity, learning through play, and social growth in children, while mothers experience psychological well-being and empowerment through meaningful interactions with other women.<br>At the meso level, Bourdieu’s framework positions the mosque as a dynamic social field where various forms of capital—social, cultural, and symbolic—are exchanged. Kama spaces facilitate the accumulation of social capital through mother-led support networks, parenting education, and religious learning. Participation in mosque-based activities enhances mothers’ social credibility and symbolic capital, encouraging sustained engagement and leadership within the community.<br>The interplay between these two levels demonstrates how secure mother–child attachment and the generation of social capital within mosques contribute to broader outcomes: family development and neighborhood-level cultural enrichment. Kama spaces thus serve as catalysts for a virtuous cycle of emotional growth, social empowerment, and community participation.<br>Strategically, the study identifies key interventions to enhance the effectiveness of Kama spaces. These include mosque design improvements to accommodate mother–child activities, training programs for facilitators, and collaborative efforts with mosque leadership to support women’s participation. The research also highlights the importance of redefining motherhood in contemporary Iranian society, where educated, religiously committed women seek to integrate caregiving with social activism.<br>The study builds on prior research addressing maternal challenges in urban environments. For example, Karami et al. (2022) identified five major obstacles faced by mothers in Tehran’s public spaces, including inadequate infrastructure, high costs, and safety concerns. Similarly, Ataol et al. (2022) emphasized the need for integrated urban spaces that support joint mother–child activities, mobility, and community engagement. Kama responds to these needs by offering a localized, mosque-based alternative that is accessible, affordable, and culturally resonant.<br>Moreover, the research draws on insights from Sadeghi and Shahabi (2019), who argue that shifting societal expectations and increased educational and professional opportunities for women have redefined the meaning of motherhood. Higgins et al. (2004) further demonstrate that role conflict between caregiving and professional aspirations can negatively impact women’s mental and physical health. Kama addresses this tension by creating a flexible environment where mothers can pursue personal growth without compromising their caregiving responsibilities.<br>Methodologically, the study employs grounded theory to extract a paradigm model illustrating the causal, contextual, strategic, and outcome-related dimensions of Kama’s impact. The model identifies two core mechanisms—secure attachment and social capital generation—as drivers of positive outcomes, including improved maternal well-being, enhanced child development, and increased community participation.<br>In conclusion, this research contributes to the discourse on women’s social participation by documenting a grassroots initiative that reimagines the role of mosques in contemporary urban life. Kama coworking spaces empower mothers to engage in meaningful activities while nurturing their children in spiritually and socially supportive environments. The findings underscore the potential of mosque-based interventions to strengthen family bonds, promote gender-inclusive community development, and revitalize the cultural relevance of religious spaces.

Introduction: This qualitative study examines how social media influences adolescents’ violent behaviors and attitudes. Adolescents, at a critical stage of identity formation, are strongly affected by both the positive and negative aspects of online interactions. The study included 24 adolescents (13 years old; 10 girls, 14 boys) selected through purposive sampling. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to explore how adolescents’ perceptions of violence are shaped by social media, their emotional reactions, and the moderating roles of family and peers. This research focuses on issues related to cyberbullying, cyberviolence, and media literacy among adolescents.<br>Method: Data were collected through 15- to 25-minute semi-structured interviews. Analysis was conducted in three stages: identifying semantic units related to online aggression experiences, categorizing extracted codes, and defining main themes. The main themes included the impact of social media on attitudes toward violence, emotional support, anxiety, individual differences, and geographical context.<br>Discussion: Findings suggest that frequent exposure to online violence is associated with higher levels of aggressive behavior. Violent media and social platforms influence adolescents’ attitudes and can lead to the imitation of aggressive patterns in real life. Family and social environments also play a significant role: individuals from unstable backgrounds are more likely to display aggression online. However, parental supervision and appropriate media education can mitigate these behaviors.<br>The study also highlights that cyberspace can promote empathy, communication, and social skills when used responsibly. Therefore, enhancing adolescents’ media literacy is essential to minimize risks and foster positive interactions.<br>Results: Social networks play a dual role in adolescent development. While excessive and uncontrolled use can increase violent tendencies, proper guidance and training can transform these platforms into valuable tools for learning, awareness, and social behavior.
